Coming from the North or South West

  1. Head down or up the M6/ M5 (as appropriate) and donít take the first exit signposted for Cheltenham (from either direction). Leave the M5 at junction 11 (signposted Cheltenham, Gloucester and the A40), then at roundabout take the 1st exit, then join the A40 (signposted Cheltenham)
  2. At Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Gloucester Road - A40 (signposted Cheltenham)
  3. Go past GCHQ on your left and try not to get your brain fried from the microwave radiation being tracked in there. (You canít miss it, it is a bloody big building shaped like a doughnut). There are also some traffic lights right outside, just so that you slow down and get an extra big dose of the aforementioned radiation.
  4. At Roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Gloucester Road - A40 (signposted Town Centre, Oxford)
  5. Go past TFI Fridays on your right and when you get to the lights there should be a Shell garage on the right. Useful to know this one, it generally has the cheapest petrol going. Stay in the right hand lane and bear right
  6. Go over a couple of sets of lights until you get to a Texaco garage in the middle of a roundabout (Trust me, you canít miss it). Go around the roundabout and take the A40 signposted to Oxford (it is the 2nd exit)
  7. Go past small set of shops on your right hand side and turn right at the next set of lights (signposted University of Gloucestershire - Park Campus)
  8. Turn left onto Ashford Road, then go straight over Painswick Road. At this point you are within 100 yards of my place and you need to start looking for somewhere to park. I donít have a garage or driveway or anything like that, and parking space is at a bit of a premium. So, see if you can find anything. In the meantime, as you keep going down Ashford Road, it bends around to the right, turning it into Gratton Road and my place is the 2nd house on the left as you go around the corner: #4.
You also have a fall back plan (and the way I actually drive home, as opposed to the route recommended by the AA)- if you go past the traffic lights in #7, and take the next right (there is a curry house on the corner) this brings you onto Great Norwood St. Go down there, and as it bends around to the left, you go past the back of my house. Turn right and right again and that will bring you onto Gratton Road. Only this time you are going the other way along it.

There are a couple of detailed maps of the final section below (click on it to make it larger): firstly one using Google Maps and one using some other source, I forget what I used. Cheltenham
